Lighthouse Field State Beach

Lighthouse Field State Beach is known as Point Santa Cruz as it forms the northern boundary of Monterey Bay. Visitors can enjoy plenty of recreational activities at one of the last open headlands in any California urban area. Rare black swift birds and wintering monarch butterflies are drawn to this area and migrate each winter to avoid freezing weather.

Support habitat restoration of popular day use areas and trails by watering and weeding the native plants previously planted. Volunteers will also continue removing designated non-native vegetation patches of Ice plant (Carpobrotus edulis) and Himalayan Blackberry (Rubus armeniacus). Hand tools such as hori horis, pulaskis, hand clippers, and loppers may be used to remove encroaching non-native vegetation around plantings. We will employ 5-gallon buckets or other water carrying equipment to transfer water to the planting areas. Ages 8 and older welcome (minors must be accompanied by an adult and bring a signed waiver). Snacks will be provided, we encourage volunteers to bring personal lunches are recommended. Steamers Lane Coffee Supply has food to purchase if volunteers want lunch or snacks/refreshments.
